Old Hollywood Glamour Shoot with Layla
This Meetup has been a popular one and the photographers have always been surprised at the images they were able to capture. So we’re doing it again for a fourth time this month.
Discover how to recreate the look of old Hollywood in this three-hour photography workshop! George Hurrell’s style set the standard for Hollywood portraiture for decades. His photographs influenced fashion, advertising, and even fine art. He helped create the iconic images of stars like Greta Garbo, Joan Crawford, Clark Gable, and Marlon Brando, forever etching their glamorous personas in our collective memory.
Hurrell was a master of light and shadow. He used spotlights, harsh contrasts, and sculpted shadows to create dramatic effects, emphasizing his subjects’ features.
In this small group workshop, limited to four photographers only, you’ll learn how to recreate this iconic look. Our model will be Layla, a former Ms Colorado, who has the face of a Hollywood star. You can follow her online at https://www.instagram.com/
We’ll spend a little time examining some of George Hurrell’s work to uncover the elements that define the look. Then head to the studio to do several lighting setups with different looks. You’ll have some time to do some one-on-one shooting with Layla for each set, although because we are using constant light, you’re welcome to do over-the-shoulder shooting throughout the evening.
We’ll be using constant Fresnel lights with barn doors, grids, and snoots to control and direct light (although you can recreate this look with any speedlight or strobe. Speedlights and strobes like the AD200 all have Fresnel heads).
All you need to bring with you is your camera, a memory card with lots of space, and a charged battery. If you have a black mist filter or something equivalent, it might enhance the look of this style. You should know how to adjust shutter speed, aperture, and ISO in manual mode. This workshop will be a unique opportunity to capture some unique images for your portfolio. Sign up soon because this workshop is limited to four photographers and will fill fast.
There is a fee of $125 to cover studio rental and modelling fee.
