I don’t think I’ve ever done a sexy pool shoot. This is actually what all my pool shoots have looked like and I don’t think I’ve ever published a set in my blog. I’m fascinated by the distortion in these kinds of images, making them seem abstract and a little otherworldly. The movement of the models, fabric, and water is always unpredictable and you never know what you’re going to get. Each picture is a complete surprise. Â
I started shooting Ahna in red fabric. When she changed into the purple dress I shot with a slow shutter speed and played with moving my camera during exposure to get camera blur. I hadn’t done that before at a pool shoot and the results were surprising and quite stunning, adding not just more abstraction, but a sense of movement.Â
In the last sets, Ahna worked with Carley first in the dress and body stocking, and then nude. I love shooting duos because you introduce relationships into the image, not just spatial or compositional relationships to objects, but emotional relationships and the tension that those entail, adding a whole new dimension to the images.Â
Because I tend to write very matter-of-factly about my work, I decided to feed some of the images from this shoot to ChatGPT, an AI program. I asked the AI to described the image in the voice of a noted art critic.
