I’ve worked with Rico once before. He approached me with a concept. The idea was a shift in the male/female power dynamic. It was inspired by a fashion shoot for high end women’s suits. Daniella, a lovely art model, who he had collaborated with in the past was in town and joined us.
I wanted it to look somewhat stylized rather than your standard fashion lighting. It was a quick shoot, but a great learning experience.
Ninety percent of my shoots are in studio on blank backdrops, so it was fun to do some environmental shooting. As I was taking the images, the work of movie director Roy Anderson floated in my mind (ex. A Pigeon Sat on a Branch Reflecting on Existence). The whole experience has inspired me to do more environmental/narrative images in the future.
