Third Time Snakes

I’ve absolutely fallen in love with snakes. It’s expensive to do these shoots and requires a fair amount of planning, but it’s totally worth it. This is my third time shooting with snakes. They are challenging. They don’t really care if you need them to stay still or strike a pose and they are constantly on the move. So you can plan all you want, but it’s still a bit of hit and miss. I’m starting to get a feel for the experience and I’ve captured some of my favorite snake pictures so far.

We tried to recreate the famous snake picture with Natasha Kinski by Richard Avedon, but just didn’t have the time to set it up. But we got one picture that I’ll just call an homage to that Avedon image.

This is Anne. Men want her and women want to be her. The snake on the other hand wanted nothing to do with her. Here are a few behind the scenes shots. We set up for this shot, but never really got a keeper. It was Anne’s first time modeling with snakes and when you have something that big draped over you, it takes a minute to get your bearings and figure out how to work with such an amazing creature. Every model who I’ve posed with snakes has the very same reaction at the beginning of the shoot.
